Online Report Portal for a Diagnostic Lab

The challenge
Patients had to come back to the lab to collect printed reports, and referring doctors called repeatedly to ask whether results were ready. Report formats differed between technicians, and tracking a sample from collection to report was difficult.
Our approach
We mapped every test the lab offers, with units and reference ranges, so reports would be consistent. Then we designed a simple status flow for each sample: collected, received, processed, verified and delivered.
The solution
Technicians now enter results into structured templates, and values outside the normal range are highlighted automatically. A pathologist verifies each report before release.
Once verified, the patient receives a secure link by SMS or WhatsApp to download a branded PDF report, and referring doctors can see their patients' reports in their own login.
How we built it
The portal and staff app are built with Next.js and FastAPI, with PostgreSQL for data and private cloud storage for report files. Links expire and require the patient's details to open.
We configured the full test menu with the lab team and trained technicians and front-desk staff on site.
